As is usual with all things government, there is some confusion going on with my citizenship application. I sent the package off about 2 1/2 months ago, the first correspondence back from them has finally turned up and is addressed to my mother in law!? What use is my textbook on the wonders of Canada, if it is two hours away in the wrong persons hands? Apparently having someone else kindly offer to pay your fee for you is too much for those well paid public servants to handle. OK that was mean, but really!
Citizenship Canada currently have a two year processing time on applications and it is no wonder if time is being spent sorting out things like this. For the need of an extra line on the fee receipt that asks for the name and address of the applicant as well as the name and address of the payee, a lot of time and effort could be saved. I can’t be the only one with helpful family members or other reasons to have someone else pay their fee. Or, if this is an impossibility, simply including a line in the application saying ‘all fees must be paid by the applicant only’ would suffice.
The phone lines are full right now so I can’t get through to anyone, the online application status check does not recognize me yet and the help questions have nothing on this topic. While I am sure that this will all work out fine, it seems that the government of Canada could do with an information and technology update.
I still love you Canada!
